#12: On Xmas cards and life

I was writing Christmas cards yesterday (well, new year’s cards as they will definitely not be making it to anyone’s mailbox in time for Christmas) and thinking about what I wish for my friends and family in 2022. Love? Health? Fun? Yes, yes, and yes. Lots.

I also wish for them to know that they have the power to change how they experience the world and how much they enjoy life. Being well is far less a function of external circumstances and genetics than we think. Our intentional actions make a huge difference. That may be hard to believe as we feel that we control very little in our lives, including our own emotions, but it remains true. It’s not just me saying this, but psychologists and neuroscientists. We are the architects of our own experience.

If you’re curious about this concept, send me a message. I’m preparing a course on this and more generally on how to change our mindsets about well-being, and I’m always interested in talking about it with you. Happy holidays.
